Who should consider taking Doxy-PEP?
Doxy-PEP is not for everyone—it’s recommended for people at higher risk of recurrent STIs, such as:
- Individuals (especially MSM and transgender women) with a recent history of STIs
- People with multiple or new sexual partners
- Those who engage in condomless sex
- Individuals already taking HIV PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
- People who want an extra layer of protection after potential exposure
👉 It is usually taken within 24–72 hours after sex, as prescribed by a doctor.
Common side effects
Most people tolerate it well, but possible side effects include:
Mild (common):
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Sensitivity to sunlight (easy sunburn)
- Acid reflux or throat irritation (especially if taken without enough water)
Rare but serious:
- Severe allergic reaction
- Persistent vomiting or severe abdominal pain
- Signs of antibiotic resistance (long-term concern)
